Regular grooming supports your dog’s comfort, hygiene and coat health. It removes loose hair and debris, helps prevent painful matting and gives groomers an opportunity to notice visible changes in the skin, ears, nails or coat. Grooming is not veterinary care, but consistent appointments can help owners recognize concerns that should be discussed with a veterinarian.
Choose tools that match your dog’s coat type and use only pet-safe shampoos and conditioners. A suitable brush, metal comb and gentle detangling spray are useful for many coats. Avoid using scissors or clippers near tight mats unless you are properly trained, because folded skin can be difficult to see. We are happy to recommend safe between-appointment care for your dog.
To make grooming your dog more manageable, start with short, positive grooming sessions and gradually increase their length. Use treats and toys as rewards to create a positive association with grooming. Ensure you use the right grooming tools for your pet’s coat type to keep them comfortable and reduce resistance.

Many people believe pet grooming is only necessary for show dogs or dogs with long hair, but all pets benefit from regular grooming. Grooming helps remove dirt, parasites, and debris, preventing matting and allowing you to check for health issues. While professional grooming can be an investment, home grooming is also feasible with the right tools. Some pets may initially resist grooming, but with patience and positive reinforcement, they can learn to enjoy the process.
Human shampoos are too harsh for pets and can strip their coats of essential oils, leading to dry, irritated skin. Pet shampoo is formulated to be gentle on your dog’s skin and coat, addressing issues such as itchiness, excessive shedding, and unpleasant odors.
Grooming frequency depends on breed, coat type, lifestyle and the style you want to maintain. Many haircut clients return every 4–8 weeks, while some short-coated dogs need less frequent professional grooming. Regular brushing between appointments helps prevent tangles and heavy shedding. We can recommend a schedule after meeting your pet.
Bathing frequency depends on your dog’s skin, coat, activity and health needs. Properly selected pet-safe products, thorough rinsing and complete drying are important. If your pet has an active skin condition or unusual irritation, speak with your veterinarian before changing the bathing routine.
Yes. Our deshedding service uses coat-appropriate bathing, drying and brushing techniques to remove loose undercoat and reduce the amount of shedding around your home. Results vary by breed, coat cycle and coat condition.
Matting can pull tightly on the skin and make brushing uncomfortable. We will evaluate the coat and recommend the safest, most humane option. Severe matting may require a shorter haircut rather than prolonged dematting. Additional time and charges may apply, and we will explain the plan before proceeding.
External anal-gland expression may be available when appropriate and safe for the dog. Swelling, pain, bleeding, infection or recurring gland problems require evaluation by a veterinarian.
Yes, we offer teeth brushing as an add-on service for $10, which includes a new toothbrush for your pet. Please ensure your dog’s teeth and gums are healthy before adding this service.
Please give at least 48 hours’ notice whenever possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and missed appointments prevent us from offering that appointment to another pet and may require a fee or deposit before rebooking.
In rare cases, we may need to cancel appointments due to weather, road conditions, equipment issues, or personal reasons. We will contact you as soon as possible to reschedule. Here at Cura Bella we appreciate open communication.
Missed appointments leave reserved grooming time unused. A deposit or advance payment may be required before rebooking after a no-show. Please contact us as early as possible if your plans change so we can help another client and find a better appointment time for you.
We accept payment via cash, Zelle, Credit, and Debit at the time of service. Please note that all fees must be settled before scheduling future appointments.
